Sitting in the centre of the shed is a clinker-built 27-foot whaler. It was built by NZ naval apprentices in 1975, a recoverable wreck when we laid hands on it. The strakes were good but the ribs were rotten. A retired octogenarian boat builder replaced the ribs driving many hundreds of new copper rovings to clench it.
