Emir is also often used as the Arabic equivalent to "prince." It can also refer to some descendants of Muhammad. 'Emir' is also used for tribal chiefs. Today, the most known emirs are the leaders of Arabic states along the Persian Gulf, in Bahrain, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (where there are 7 of them).
