Although the MITS Altair 8800 was the first practical personal microcomputer and started the industry, credit for spreading the personal computer revolution must go to another company_IMS Associates and its product, the Imsai 8080 computer.

The IMSAI was certainly the best-looking of the early micro-computers, and was sold as both a kit or already-assembled and tested. The kit version was hundreds of dollars cheaper, but it took many long days of careful soldering and assembly to create a (hopefully) working IMSAI.

The IMSAI 8080 used an Intel 8080A processor, and came with 4K RAM. I/O was through front panel switches and LED's, without additional peripherals. It was once the fastest selling microcomputer. It had an S-100 bus with 22 expansion slots.
