The toxoplasma test looks for antibodies to a parasite called Toxoplasma in the blood. The parasite causes an infection called toxoplasmosis, which can be dangerous to a developing fetus.

The only known definitive hosts for Toxoplasma gondii are members of family Felidae (domestic cats and their relatives). Unsporulated oocysts are shed in the cat’s feces . Although oocysts are usually only shed for 1-2 weeks, large numbers may be shed.

Toxoplasmosis (toxo) is an infection caused by a single-celled parasite called Toxoplasma gondii. The infection is most commonly acquired from contact with cats and their feces or with raw or undercooked meat.
