Thus one would expect to see i.e. used to clarify or put in other words something previously stated. One might see the following correct usage of i.e.: “Her heart sunk as the ship disappeared into the water; ... I wanted to know the meaning of IE. You not only gave me the answer, I now know the meaning of Eg. Thank you!

Grammar Girl here. This episode is a new and improved version of i.e. versus e.g. ... I thought eg and ie were followed by a colon for the list. And I don't ue the periods after the letter and do italicize... any comments? -----
