A faggot is a kind of meatball. Faggots are a traditional dish in the UK, especially the Midlands of England. It is made from meat off-cuts and offal, especially pork.

I recently reread the Lord of the Rings trilogy and I've always been curious about Tolkien's casual use of the term faggot. I guess that in Britain the term does not carry a negative connotation and is used as slang for cigarettes and whatnot, but it still gets me thinking.
