CHALMERS, Thomas, D.D., an eminent divine of the Scottish Church, was born on 17th March, 1780, in the burgh of Anstruther Easter, in Fife, where his father was a shipowner and general merchant. He was the sixth of a family of fourteen, and received his first education in the parish school of his native place.
