A page in the Encyclopedia of Marxism ... Herman Gorter was born on November 26, 1864, the son of a famous Dutch litterateur. He was keen student of the classics and became a teacher of Greek and Latin. Gorter created a great stir with his poem, May, which expressed a worship of nature in a language never heard before.
