In a thrilling finale, the 1999 Berlin six day race was won on the very last lap by Belgium's Etienne de Wilde (at 40, the oldest man in the race) and his German partner Andreas Kappes. Heading into the final night, just four of the eighteen competing teams were on the same lap.
