Turbinidae, common name the turban snails, are a taxonomic family of small to large sea snails, marine gastropod molluscs in the superfamily Trochacea, the top snails, turban snails and their allies. In life, all the snails in this family have a strong, thick calcareous operculum, or "door" to their shell.

The Turban Shell (Turbo torquata) is a common intertidal species that belongs to the turban shells family (Turbinidae). It is known to occur around the southern coast of Australia and its range is from the waters of northern NSW around the southern coast to Geraldton in Western Australia.

This is the most common turban shell on rocky shores. They have a thick chalky operculum (structure that fits and protects the opening of the shell), which is often called a "cat's eye". They are algal feeders. In other countries, they are collected as food, and the "cat's eye" made into jewellery, and even paper weights.
